The mission of the Center for the Advancement of Well-Being (CWB) is to catalyze human well-being by promoting the science and practices that lead to a life of vitality, purpose, and resilience. As an interdisciplinary teaching and research center at George Mason University, we are dedicated to helping individuals and organizations thrive in a world of complexity and uncertainty.

The Center for the Advancement of Well-Being—originally called the Center for Consciousness and Transformation—is housed in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and was made possible by a generous donation by the deLaski Family Foundation in 2009.

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning (LGBTQ) Resources Office provides and supports curricular and co-curricular experiences that enhance the health and wellbeing, academic success, and personal development of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and ally students, faculty, staff, alumni and their families and friends. This office is a safe and inclusive space and all are welcome to visit the office and use the space as a safe, inclusive, and comforting environment to gain access to Mason LGBTQ Resources and access to information about events and programs taking place on campus as well as to do homework and engage with friends as well as other LGBTQ and Ally individuals of the Mason community.

Mason CARES

Housed in CAPS, Mason CARES is a program that supports suicide prevention and mental health awareness efforts at George Mason University.

Mason CARES talks about suicide to educate the Mason Community on how to recognize and respond to those in crisis; increase awareness and knowledge of available resources in regards to suicide prevention, mental health, and wellness; and help change the perceptions most people have concerning mental health by circulating positive images of mental illness and promoting help-seeking behaviors. We accomplish this through awareness campaigns, outreach events, and both in-person and online gatekeeper trainings.

Office of Disability Services (ODE)

The Office of Disability Services (ODS) is available to serve all students with disabilities, including those with cognitive (e.g., learning, psychological, and closed head injury), sensory, mobility, and other physical impairments. ODS strives to promote equal access to students with disabilities in curricular and co-curricular activities within the university experience; foster partnerships with students, faculty, and staff to create environments that are accessible, diverse, and inclusive; and empower students to fully participate in the university community.

ODIME leads the university in creating an inclusive learning environment through identity development and cultural competency.  Their mission is to assist the university in retaining, actively engaging and successfully graduating students with specific attention to historically underrepresented and marginalized groups.

Office of Compliance, Diversity, and Ethics

Compliance, Diversity and Ethics works to strengthen Mason's obligation to act with integrity by embracing diversity, accountability and ethical decision-making. We accomplish this through the development of policies and initiatives that promote compliance with applicable laws and regulations and that assure equal access and equal opportunity for all University members. Through collaborative relationships within and outside Mason, we seek to increase access and opportunity within the University and to serve as a model for educational institutions within the Commonwealth of Virginia by creating an inclusive community that enhances the ability of each of its members to achieve their educational and professional goals.

The mission of the Office of Military Services at Mason is to assist veterans, active duty service members, guardsmen, reservists, and dependents in making a successful transition into the Mason community. Their goal is to help these students in a number of capacities including counseling and advising on benefits, academic and admissions advising, and career transition.

WAVES was created in the fall of 2012 with the merger of the former offices of Sexual Assault Services with Alcohol, Drug, and Health Education. WAVES promotes wellness within the Mason community through health education, alcohol/drug assessment and education, and violence awareness, prevention and response. WAVES helps students make healthy, safe choices and encourage lifelong, thoughtful healthy decision-making through individualized support, creative programming, and evidence-based education and outreach.

 

Victims' services include:

  • 24 Hour Sexual Intimate and Partner Violence Crisis Line (703-380-1434)

  • Sexual Assault Survivors' group

  • Academic intervention and emergency housing assistance

  • Psychological, medical, legal and judicial support and information

 

Alcohol and other drug services include:
